Job Description & Address:

BC Recreation and Parks Association is a not-for-profit organization that provides professional development for practitioners in the parks, recreation and culture sector; that advocates for healthy lifestyles and communities; and is the voice for the sector that articulates the health, social, economic and environmental benefits of parks and recreation.
We are currently seeking a full-time Program Manager, Fitness who will be responsible for planning, directing and implementing strategies that support the objectives of the BCRPA strategic plan as they relate to the areas of Physical Activity and Fitness.

Position duties and responsibilities:

Plan and coordinate a variety of initiatives related to the areas of Physical Activity and Fitness such as, but not limited to, the following:

- Provincial Fitness Leadership Registration Program
- Annual Training Events (i.e. Fitness Conference)
- Fitness Advisory Committee
- Regional Networks
- Instructor Competency Workshops
- Women in Leadership Workshops
- Train the Trainer Process
- Participate in consultations as needed (i.e. National Fitness Leadership Alliance)
- Develop and direct the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures
- Provide direct supervision, review and evaluation of support staff
- Evaluate the performance of the various initiatives and programs
- Support and liaise with task groups, advisory committees and networks
- Develop and implement a marketing and promotions strategy
- Develop and maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Develop and monitor the program’s budget
- Monitor trends that affect the activities and work processes of the program and make changes as needed
- Develop an operational framework for a train the trainer model
- Negotiate, develop, monitor and administer a variety of contracts and agreements
- Contribute to the BCRPA staff team; supporting related activities
- Perform related duties as required

Required skills and knowledge:

- extensive knowledge of provincial health and fitness initiatives
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- strong writing and speaking skills
- demonstrated supervisory skills
- ability to work independently, and as a team member
- detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- working knowledge of Microsoft Professional Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Access

Desired training and experience:

- graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Human Kinetics or Kinesiology or other related field(s)
- four or more years of progressively responsible related experience in health and fitness programming, management or a related area
or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

Terms of Employment:

Employment to begin as soon as possible, with a three-month probationary period and a two-year, renewable term. Satisfactory completion of the probationary period will be determined through a performance review. BCRPA mandatory benefits package to be available upon successful completion of the probationary period.

The rate of pay is $28.00 per hour. Work week is 35 hours. Office hours are 8:30am – 4:30pm, with one hour off for lunch.

Vacation leave to be provided at the rate of 15 days per year following the first year of employment.

The cost of medical coverage is available, 50% paid by BCRPA

Dental and extended health benefits are also available, 100% paid by BCRPA

Long term disability coverage, 100% paid by employee

Group RRSP plan, 50% employee/employer program; eligibility after 6 months of continuous employment

Extended health care coverage is provided through Chamber of Commerce. In addition, BCRPA offers to its employees, but not their dependents, vision care coverage to a maximum of $100 every two years.
