Women: Prepare for Ski Season and Close the Gender Gap

With the Fall season upon us it is not too soon to prepare for the days ahead when our skis can carve into fresh powdery slopes and we can listen to the swoosh of every turn under our feet. Our planks have grown longer and fatter, boots now mold to our feet like a warm sock and yet every season comes with an increased prevalence of injury to one particular joint – the knee. Knee injuries now account f or 1 in 3 ski injuries, with ACL injuries comprising almost half. Command of speed, reaction to bumps and valleys, acceleration and deceleration through each turn, rebounding from jumps: a perfect recipe for an ACL tear, especially if you happen to be a woman.
