Fitness and Rehabilitation Advisor - Temporary Full-time


The Township of Langley, with a current population of 100,000 residents, maintains a unique balance between state-of-art manufacturing, retail and service sectors, residential and vibrant agricultural and rural areas. We are currently recruiting for a temporary full-time (from approx. June 6/07 to approx. November 30/07) Fitness and Rehabilitation Advisor to join our team of professionals in the Recreation, Culture and Parks Division.

Reporting to the Health & Fitness Programmer, you will be responsible in this unionized position for meeting with clients to review and assess the nature of injuries, diagnosing physical limitations and/or medical condition and creating a rehabilitation plan and program and providing personalized training and coaching to advance the program. You will be coordinating personal training sessions and you will be performing fitness and body composition assessments for individuals or groups, using standard tests and advising clients of results and discussing possible conditioning and strengthening activities. You will also be participating in selecting, training, supervising, directing and scheduling the work of auxiliary staff, contract instructors and volunteers.

Your education will include university graduation in Kinesiology supplemented by courses in weight training and fitness and some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You must also possess a valid emergency First Aid Certificate, a valid CPR Certificate ­ Level C and a valid Class 5 (full-privilege) BC Driver's License. In addition, you must be a registered member in the B.C. Association of Kinesiologists and have both B.C. Recreation & Parks Association Registered Personal Trainer and B.C. Recreation & Parks Association Registered Fitness Leader certifications. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential in this role. Supervisory experience would be an asset.

The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $20.71 - $23.70 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of all benefits and the hours of work are Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9:00am – 6:00pm and Tuesday and Thursday 10:30am – 7:30pm.

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety) and requires a criminal record check.
