LORIMER MOSELEY, PhD

Explain Pain and the Neuromatrix Approach to Chronic Pain

Wednesday, June 6, 2007

Introducing:
Dr Lorimer Moseley is internationally renowned for his work in chronic pain and CRPS. He is Nuffield Research Fellow in Medical Sciences at Oxford University, UK. He is author of over 50 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. He is author
(with David Butler) of , which is now a key text for pain sciences at
many universities. He is internationally renowned for his ability to translate modern pain science into real language that is both fun and interesting.

Understand & Explain Pain:
Contrary to popular belief, it is reasonably easy to understand pain, if we look at its biology. Once we understand it, "Explain Pain", we can explain it to clients so that they understand
it. Once clients understand pain, we know that they participate more completely in rehabilitation and are more likely to successfully return to work.

Learning Objectives:
This seminar will give participants (i) an understanding of pain that is based on current knowledge from across the pain sciences, and around which management and rehabilitation strategies can be built, (ii) some basic ideas/strategies for promoting conceptual change in their clients, and (iii) an awareness of the evidence-based for doing so.
