Preventing Heat Injuries - Part 1

In 2007, Chicago hit record temperatures which led to a record number of heat-related injuries at the annual Chicago Marathon. Of the 45,000 registered runners for the 30th annual Chicago race, about 10,000 did not show up and another 10,934 did not finish because of the extreme heat and humidity. The conditions forced organizers to end the race at about 3.5 hours into it. During the race, 49 people were taken to hospital and 250 were treated on the race course for heat injuries. These results demonstrate the very real dangers of exercising in a hot, humid environment. This article outlines the different types of heat-related injuries, factors affecting heat injuries and prevention.

Looking for a Fitness & Rehab Profesional

A lady from Vancouver was reading my
Fitness & Rehab blog. She contacted me for some training. I let her know I see clients in Surrey, Langley and Abbotsford but I would help her find a Fitness & Rehab Professional in her area (Vancouver - Oak & 16th). She is looking for an exercise program that focuses on weight loss and that can help post-rehab her knee. Reply to this newsletter with your name, e-mail, phone number and bio if you are able to help this potential client and I will forward your information on.

Upcoming Courses

I am excited to announce the fall courses that I will be presenting. There have been some changes to the format of the courses. I got feedback from people that the vast majority of course options was confusing so I have bundled them up into regions of the body. The courses have been arranged into upper body, core and lower body. You can take the full weekend relating to the region of the body or you can take a specific four-hour course targeting a joint. Here are the dates:

Exercise Rehabilitation of the Upper Body - October 18 & 19

Core Stability Weekend - November 15 & 16

Exercise Rehabilitation of the Lower Body - December 6 & 7
