I have done some crazy stuff in my short life.
I flew to Winnipeg for the weekend and ran a marathon.
Then I moved to Penticton and trained for the Ironman Triathlon.
But the craziest thing I have ever done was spend 5 month hiking 4300 kilometres.
Crazy = Hiking 4300 kilometres in 5 Months <== See the Funny Pictures of Me
Myself and 2 other friends started in San Diego and walked a half-marathon 6 times a week until we got to Manning Park in Canada.
It was crazy but a very memorable adventure!
Other than having to fend off biting ants, killer mosquitos and hungry bears, the toughest thing was managing all the injuries we got.
Many of the concepts I discovered on the long hike, I use today.
I have been asked to do a talk on the hike. I don't present this slideshow very often but next Tuesday I am presenting it at the Chilliwack Library.
Here are the details:
A Walk to Remember: The Pacific Crest Trail
Tuesday, May 4th
7:00pm-8:30pm
Chilliwack Library
45860 First Avenue
Chilliwack, BC V2P 7K1
Phone (604) 792-1941
The talk if free and I guarantee it will be funny.

P.S. - The craziest thing I have done was walk from the Mexican Boarder back to Canada. No joke, have a look:

Scapular Stabilization Exercise Program Rescheduled
I had to reschedule the scapular stabilization exercise webinar because of a funeral.
==> http://www.scapularstabilizationexercises.com/
I am not good with funerals. I am not sure how to act or behave.
The good thing that came out of the rescheduling of the webinar is I was able to do more research on scapular stabilization.
I am so glad I did. I came across two articles that changed my scapular stabilization exercise webinar.
The first article only came out two weeks ago and addressed the contraindication of an exercises that I include in my scapular stabilization program. I am glad I found that article, it addressed the biomechanics of the shoulder during the exercise and highlighted which shoulder injuries should not be doing the exercise. I was able to get the details into the webinar, ebook, on-line resources and added the great article to the references of the webinar.
The second article came out earlier this year and is amazing. Very geeky but it reviewed all the research when it comes to exercises for scapula dyskinesis. The article re-enforced the importance that a scapular stabilization exercise program is not just strength exercises. If this is all you are focusing on with your clients that have winging scapula or a scapula that does not function properly overhead, then you are doing are not helping your client. It showed me that there are 5 components of a scapular stabilization exercise program. I got those five things into the webinar and I know it will help all those that attended with their shoulder clients.
I am glad that I glad I had that funeral as it has changed how I approach scapular stabilization exercises and I know it will improve the lives of all of my shoulder injury clients.
If you missed out on the webinar, here is you chance to get it:

Fitness & Rehabilitation Newsletter
On Saturday, I was chatting on the phone.
I did the pinch the phone between your ear and shoulder thing.
Because of this I ended up with a kink in my neck. It was sore to rotate my head plus I had limited range of motion.
I used a few of the techniques I had learned from the trigger point course I took on the kink.
It helped decrease the pain and helped with my neck movements, plus got rid of that kink feeling.
That trigger point stuff is very cool.
A few people have been asking when the next Trigger Point courses are. Here are the details:
Saturday, March 6, 2010 - 8:45 am to 5:30 pm
Understanding Trigger Points to Overcome Pain
Douglas College (Royal Ave & 8th St) - New Westminster, BC
Sunday, March 7, 2010 - 8:45 am to 3:30 pm
Hands-On: Trigger Points for Shoulder & Migraine Issues

Fitness & Rehab Newsletter
In Issue #86:
- Rick Kaselj Update
- Fitness & Rehab Conference - Myorelease & Exercise with Andrew Peters
- Upcoming Courses - March Courses
Rick Kaselj Update
I just finished one of the interviews for the next Exercises for Injuries Manuals. The interview was with a doctor from Singapore who shared with subscribers some of the new research around scoliosis and what fitness professionals need to remember when designing an exercise program for a client with scoliosis.
In this issue of the Fitness & Rehab newsletter, I have another interview with one of the presenters for the March 28 & 29 Fitness & Rehab Conference.
I interview Andrew Peters who talks about his self trigger point technique that he uses with his athletes to help them performing at a their peak level. He will be sharing his techniques in the "Introducing the Myorelease Technique" on March 28.
Enjoy the interview.
P.S. - I have a number of announcements over the next few weeks. One of them I will have for you on Thursday. Watch for it!

Fitness & Rehab Conference
The Myorelease Technique with Andrew Peters
In this session you will learn how to release your own myofascial trigger points. Releasing your own myofascial trigger points will help decrease muscle hypertonicity, soreness and improve flexibility. Releasing trigger points leads to optimal neuro-muscular tone and function.
